About Subnet Calculator
Calculate IP subnets, CIDR ranges, usable hosts, and split networks with VLSM — the ultimate network planning tool, in your browser.
How to use Subnet Calculator
- 1Enter a CIDR notation (e.g., 192.168.1.0/24) in the input field.
- 2View the subnet information: network address, broadcast, first/last host, subnet mask, wildcard mask, and usable host count.
- 3Use the Split Network tab to divide the subnet into smaller equal-sized subnets.
- 4Use the VLSM tab to allocate subnets based on different host requirements.
- 5Review IP class and type (private/public) information.
Tips
- A /24 gives 254 usable hosts, a /25 gives 126, a /26 gives 62 — each bit halves the available addresses.
- VLSM is essential for efficient IP allocation — assign subnet sizes based on actual host needs instead of wasting addresses.
- The wildcard mask is the inverse of the subnet mask — you need it for ACLs in Cisco routers.
